Peru: Colourful like a Rainbow-5

AREQUIPA

We get on the bus at Puno Bus Terminal to go to Arequipa. There is no airport in Puno, so one should go to Juliaca, an hour’s drive from Arequipa, if he’d like to travel by plane.

During our travel, sellers continuously get on and off the bus and try to sell something to the passangers, as a custom here. We often see “lama crossing road sign” on our way.

When we arrive Arequipa, we see a bigger and highly industrialized city than we expected. Chili River passes through the city center. In Arequipa, called as “White city”, we go around Plaza de Armas for a while. Besides its enchanting architecture, the city center is home to numerous modern cafes and restaurants, located inner courts of the buildings.

In addition, compared to Cusco and Puno, Arequipa is a cosmopolitan city, by no means local. We must admit that we are very intrigued to see alpacas, whom the city is popular with. We visit Mundo Alpaca, where we observe many alpaca species, feed them and learn how to process wool. We still remember funny looking of alpacas while eating the grass and spitting in one tourist’s face :)
